I recently took a virtual class I had to attend weekly. As with mostly any other class or course, there were weekly assignments that all students were to be doing away from our collective time between each class. While I was present in each moment of the actual classes, I found myself challenged with the assignments or things we were supposed to be doing in between. For most of the duration of the course, I found myself experiencing feelings of guilt and shame for not actively participating in the out-of-class assignments. But through a coaching experience and also understanding my intention for class in the first place, I was able to have and come to a place of self-awareness that I shouldn’t feel guilt or shame about this. Even though I didn’t find myself active in the outside-of-class activities, I was still fulfilling my intention in completing the class and also gained an understanding that I was still getting what I needed out of the class.
