Every day I’m working to get better. I over-invest my time in my growth. Sometimes it’s paralyzing and I get stuck or caught up in the details of the perfection of how I want to grow, instead of having grace with myself for my efforts made.
I want to be a better Human.
I want to be a better son.
I want to be a better partner.
I want to be a better father
I want to be a better teacher.
I want to be a better businessperson.
I want to be better and the best at whatever I do.
But does this obsession with getting better take away from my present moment awareness? Yes and No.
When I notice these feelings and what’s happening, I get brought right back to the present, that’s mindfulness. That’s me getting better. That’s my practice. The perpetual practice of getting better with my awareness. If I get 1% better as one of my football coaches tells me, I think I can be more present. I can appreciate what’s happening in the now and maybe those moments will be enlightenment. I don’t know.
